Race, Identity & Culture
To be your authentic self is the highest form of expression.
“The moment we choose to love [ourselves], we begin to move towards freedom....”
The traditional psychotherapy model is highly individualised, centring the individual over the collective, focusing little on community, and even less on the social, cultural, and economic environments that profoundly shape your life. The historical and systemic forces that hold powerful influence in the world — and in your body and psyche — are rarely addressed. Nor are the inherited intergenerational traumas that are the source of so many difficulties that bring people to therapy.
A Whole-Person Perspective
This work takes a broader, more integrated view.
Body-centred and systemic, it sees you not only as an individual, but as part of a family system, an ancestral lineage, an ethnicity and culture, a community, and a world structure that informs who you are, your sense of belonging, and how you move through life.
A Culturally Attuned Space
As a Black therapist working with People of Colour, I understand something of what it means to carry the weight of a racialised body through a world that was not built with you in mind; to navigate spaces that ask you to shrink, perform, or leave parts of yourself at the door.
This space asks nothing of the kind.
Honouring Difference and Identity
Here you can show up fully as yourself, without a need to explain or justify your lived experience. You are welcome to arrive with your full history, your complexity, your contradictions, and your brilliance. However you identify — in terms of race, culture, sexuality, gender, disability, or a unique way of living that doesn't fit conventional expectations — you are received exactly as you are. You are seen, you are welcomed, and you belong here.
Today, there is a growing acknowledgement of diversity and difference beyond long-held societal norms. Yet for many People of Colour, truly being seen and accepted within the body they inhabit, with the history they carry, remains rare. Finding a therapeutic space that holds the fullness of that experience, without pathologising it, can feel almost impossible.
This is that space.
“This work is about claiming your rightful place in the world; stepping forward confidently, with self-love, self-awareness, self-assurance, and determination; standing powerfully in your identity and your full, authentic expression.”
Reclaiming Your Place
I provide an inclusive, culturally competent space for you to explore those aspects of self, body, and being that call for expression but may have been denied and suppressed by the dictates of society. Being able to bring the whole of yourself and your full expression into the world and to be accepted for who you are allows you to expand and grow, and reclaim your dignity, self-worth, and power.
Unbound supports you in reconnecting with your sense of self, dignity, and belonging.
It is about:
- reclaiming your voice and expression
- feeling more at home in your body
- standing more fully in who you are
As this unfolds, you may begin to experience a deeper sense of confidence, self-trust, and inner freedom.
“I was able to see the other side more clearly - the beautiful being hidden inside of me.”
An Invitation
If you are seeking a space where your identity, experience, and full expression are welcomed and understood, this work offers a supportive place to begin.
